Hello and welcome to the Malkan Show podcast. I am Meghna Malkan. Thanks so much for joining me today on this episode of the podcast.
I know your time is valuable and I'm really happy that you're listening to me today. Years ago when I was attending a spiritual retreat at a place a young person just got up and asked the question.
To the leader every time I sit down to meditate I feel that my mind is flooded by hundreds of thoughts how then do I silence my mind. And then I pondered isn't this the question that we all think when we all try to meditate perhaps the same question ran through my mind as well and the leader smiled and said the hundreds of thoughts that you feel but already there.
It is just that now that you're sitting in meditation, you are aware that these thoughts are there that they are present. So in a way meditation does not bring thoughts rather it quietens you and makes you aware of your inner noise the word's inner noise just drop my mind and my heart couldn't get out of them. I kept thinking about them all night. We all know of these in a noise.
It is very pronounced when we are high on emotions. So for instance when you're very angry, you can clearly hear all the screaming in your mind that's happening all the time. How dare the person treated me this way. This is absolutely unfair. Oh, I don't have behaved in this manner, etc. Etc, or on the opposite. If you are ecstatically happy about something the thoughts would be something like wow.
What a brilliant day, I'm having I'm just sure everything will go my way today, or what a gooey feeling is this love? I'm so excited or wow. What a wonderful View.
However, even when we are not emotional the thoughts just keep running. Sometimes it may be about some task at hand that we learn to do and at other times it may be about small Petty inane things but the truth is the mind is never quiet.
And if this isn't enough what we experience is just one-tenth of our mind, which is a sub 1 which is the conscious mind because within the layers there exists. The other 9/10 is the subconscious mind, which is constantly abuzz with thoughts emotions that are unexpressed, and also those desires which are entertained but not completed.
So all in all our internal system is always churning burning and learning in ways, which we can probably never even comprehend. So if sleeplessness tiredness aches and pains are Normal parts of a day you may start looking for the cause in your body I speak about this a lot in my sessions.
But however, it's usually the Mind where the root lies. It is likely that the mind is overworking and consuming so much energy that all your vital organs are deprived of what they really need and not just the body centers what even mind is shoes laying like Drinker or extreme emotions guy reading from one emotion to the other and all the imbalance.
Exception, of course, band ring that is not addressed. So the answer rise is simple enough, right? We all need to rest our minds. And yet as easy as it sounds it is really tough. And I don't intend to scare you here because if only the mind was a switch that you could flick on and off how simple wouldn't everything be but that is not how it works sadly.
So Taming of the mind I've realized over the years is a practice and a consistent one at that just the way we would go to a gym to workout and embodies the mind to weeds that kind of consistent training.
Because when look. I want peace something that sounds so, it's Audrey. It's actually a result of Mastery over the mind nothing else.
It's as simple as that and I love the simple way in which spiritual gurus explain that the more your mind is with your body the more at the moment you are and the more at the moment you are the more peace you experience over a period of time. So I'll typically is all about being present in the moment.
After that, Patrika is European rabbit reading my mind, you can use a lot of tools available.
You can use tools like chanting mantras focusing on your breathing losing yourself to dancing or Sufi whirling any these, you know, I've tried them all even after doing so much the mind has a mind of its own but over the years as time passes by you realize that there you realize that Experience an incredible slow down in your mind and I'm all these techniques I find being present and focusing on your breath the best that's an instant way to relax your mind even in the middle of chaos.
So eventually once you start practicing this consistently you see the magic unfolding you'll experience long periods of time with no thoughts at all. Isn't that magical guy all the agitation and Chaos Within? If void the focus will increasingly go on the present moment and unless you will it the mind will not travel to the past or the future with these little shapes the overall quality of your life will improve significantly guys an important message here.
Is that what I've realized over the years is silence is not a luxury, silence is our nature.
So let's gift ourselves with this beautiful gift of silence. It's we are 2021 and I believe in all the things that you give to yourself. This is the best thing that will ever do guys. Go ahead and tried. I wish you all the best.
